Florida extends Will Muschamp’s contract through 2017
The Gators exercised a one-year option on coach Will Muschamp’s contract in January, then gave him another year just before the start of this season.
His contract now runs through the 2017 season at the same rate of about $2.8 million per year. He originally signed through 2015 when UF hired him in December 2010.
It looks like smart money, especially now that the team stands 11-1 and appears headed to the Sugar Bowl, but Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley and school president Bernard Machen made the move before any of that occurred.
“Dr. Machen and I believed in the leadership and direction of the football program this summer and we made a decision to extend Coach Muschamp’s contract an additional year this past August, prior to the start of the season,” Foley said in a statement released by the University Athletic Association.
