SEC bowl projections: Florida still has strong shot at Sugar Bowl
As much as the Gators would prefer to win the SEC Eastern Division and play for a conference title, their post-season bowl chances might be better without playing in the SEC Championship Game.
If Florida wins out and does not go to the conference championship, it would finish 11-1. Georgia also is on course for 11-1 in the regular season, but the Bulldogs could plummet in the BCS if they get blown out by No. 1 Alabama in that game.
At that point, Florida probably will be the only one-loss team in the conference, behind undefeated Alabama and ahead of two-loss Georgia, Mississippi State and LSU.
If the Gators go to the Sugar Bowl, they could draw the Big East champion, which looks like it will be No. 12 Louisville. Former Gators DC Charlie Strong coaches the Cardinals.
Once all the automatic tie-ins are filled, the picking order goes Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl.
