Matt Elam, Mike Gillislee semifinalists for major awards
Some of the biggest individual award committees in college football are narrowing their lists, and Florida has two players that made the cut.
S Matt Elam, from Dwyer High School, is one of 16 semifinalists for the Bednarik Award. That goes to the top defensive player in the country.
Elam is third on the team with 41 tackles. He ha four tackles for loss, two interceptions and two pass break-ups.
RB Mike Gillislee, the No. 4 rusher in the SEC, is up for the Maxwell Award, which honors the most outstanding overall player. He is averaging 91.1 yards per game on the ground.
The award committees will pare it down to three finalists Nov. 19, then announce the winners Dec. 6.
