Gators WR Solomon Patton breaks arm in loss to Georgia
Solomon Patton finally developed into a significant contributor at Florida, but his breakthrough abruptly ended today.
In the first quarter of Florida’s 17-9 loss to Georgia, Patton took a handoff toward the left sideline that likely was his last of this season. Bulldogs SS Shawn Williams tackled Patton by his neck and the hard landing broke his left arm.
He will be out indefinitely and most likely is done for the season.
Patton, a junior from Mobile, Ala., was an afterthought at receiver the past two years, but found a role in new OC Brent Pease’s offense. Florida used him on speed sweeps and he had 143 rushing yards on 14 carries. He was averaging 20 rushing yards per game prior to today.
Unless he qualifies for a hardship waiver, which is unlikely, he is not eligible for a medical red-shirt because he has played too many games and played too deep into the season.
