SEC bowl projections: Gators stand near top of conference’s bids
A wild weekend catapulted Florida into the national spotlight. It also dramatically improved the Gators’ post-season potential.
Florida beat LSU, the defending conference champion, to improve to 5-0. Unlike a year ago when the Gators needed a November win over Furman to be bowl eligible, they can wrap it up this Saturday at Vanderbilt (6 p.m., ESPNU).
At this point, Florida projects to play in the Capital One Bowl, which would easily be its best post-season game since playing in the Sugar Bowl at the end of the 2009 season.
An interesting side story: The conference might have trouble filling all of its spots. Four schools currently look like they will have a hard time getting to six wins. Auburn (1-4), Missouri (3-3), Ole Miss (3-3) and Kentucky (2-10) figure to be close calls at best.
